Since our founding in 2005, our mission has been to save the lives of as many animals as possible and to reduce as much animal suffering as we can. We want a world where people, companies, and legislators are making choices that help and not hurt animals, a world in which all animals are treated with the same respect and compassion that we show to our beloved family dog or cat. We invest our time, money and energy where they will do the most good for the greatest number of animals. As a result, our primary focus is on farmed animal issues. Farmed animals represent over 98% of the animals used and killed in the United States, and because they are excluded from state anti-cruelty laws they suffer intensely on today's "factory farms."

Burger King, Tim Hortons & Popeyes : Cessez d’encourager l’abus des poules !

Toutefois, Burger King n’a pas joint ce mouvement pour un meilleur traitement des animaux à l’échelle mondiale. Burger King affirme : « Nous savons que nos stratégies et nos pratiques vont évoluer et changer en fonction de l’évolution et des changements de l’environnement dans lequel s’inscrit notre activité ». Les citoyens du monde entier attendent désormais de la chaîne de restauration qu’elle rejoigne la vague croissante d’entreprises qui condamnent certains des pires abus de l’élevage intensif. Pour Burger King, Tim Hortons et Popeyes (et sa maison-mère Restaurant Brands International, RBI), l’heure du changement a sonné. Pero cuando se trata de hablar de bienestar animal, Burger King prioriza sus resultados sobre las millones de gallinas ponedoras que sufren en su cadena de suministro global. Burger King y sus empresas hermanas como son Tim Hortons y Popeyes, se niegan a poner fin al apoyo a las granjas donde se confinan a las gallinas en jaulas diminutas y sucias. Burger King defines corporate responsibility as “looking beyond a strong bottom line to consider the impact of everything [they] do.” But when it comes to animal welfare, Burger King prioritizes its bottom line over the millions of egg-laying hens suffering in its global supply chain. Burger King and its sister companies, Tim Hortons and Popeyes, refuse to end their support of farms that confine hens in tiny, filthy cages. These cages are so small and packed with birds that the hens can’t do anything that is natural or important to them. Often, their body parts are caught in the caging, which results in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their cage mates. Hundreds of companies around the world are ditching cages. Global commitments to end cruel cages are being made by some of the largest companies in the world, including Unilever, Nestle, Aldi, InterContinental Hotels, Sodexo, Mondelez, Compass Group, Shake Shack, Famous Brands, Costa Coffee, and Barilla. Even US prisons are moving away from this horrible practice. Burger King, however, has failed to join this movement towards better treatment of animals globally. Burger King states: “We know our policies and procedures will evolve and change as the landscape in which we do business evolves and changes.” Burger King has fallen behind on animal welfare. The world is now looking to Burger King to meet basic animal welfare standards and to join the growing wave of companies that are abolishing some of the worst factory farm abuses. It’s time for Burger King and its parent company, Restaurant Brands International to make a change. Tyson: Stop neglecting workers, animals, and public health!
The COVID-19 crisis is exposing how vulnerable our food system is. Tyson Foods, the country’s largest poultry producer, has been in the spotlight for refusing to take meaningful actions to protect its workers and public health at large, all while millions of animals suffer in its unsanitary factory farms. Please sign this petition to demand Tyson stop neglecting public health and finally do right by workers and animals alike. Across the nation, workers from at least 31 Tyson plants have tested positive for coronavirus, and tragically over 25 have died. Workers say they have been pressured to work even when sick and never received protective gear even as their coworkers were falling ill. Workers are being forced to choose between their health and a paycheck they need to survive. Tyson’s chairman, John H. Tyson, placed full-page ads in the New York Times and Washington Post in a desperate attempt to get sympathy from the American public and redirect consumers' attention away from the thousands of sick workers. He argued that meat was as essential as health care, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Workers’ lives should not be traded in for Tyson’s profits. When Tyson puts workers at risk, it also jeopardizes the health and safety of the entire surrounding community. The same goes for the chickens Tyson raises on factory farms—unsanitary, disease-ridden places where there’s no such thing as social distancing. John Tyson warned in his ad that ‘depopulation’ efforts may occur—meaning killing and discarding millions of animals—which was another stark reminder of how careless Tyson will be to protect its bottom line and public image. For decades, Tyson has been called on to improve the treatment of animals in its supply chain. Chickens are bred to grow so large so fast they can hardly walk; as a result, they have weak immune systems and struggle to fight off disease, especially in this environment. Scientists have warned that factory farms are ideal breeding grounds for the emergence and spread of highly infectious zoonotic diseases as well as antibiotic resistant pathogens. Despite these warnings, Tyson continues to expand and prioritize the worst factory farming methods. At Tyson’s slaughterhouses, conditions are dangerous and abusive for workers and animals and regularly raise concerns around public health. Animals are hung upside down by their fragile legs and moved through the slaughter line at an unimaginable speed, which results in frequent worker injuries. This fast pace makes detection of feces and other contaminants on chickens’ bodies nearly impossible, which is why roughly 48 percent of grocery store chicken contains fecal bacteria, a common source of foodborne illness. Tyson’s normal business practices are in desperate need of repair. Tyson must provide safer working conditions, mandate social distancing, provide testing and transparent reports, and provide paid-sick leave. Tyson needs to slow production line speeds, transition out dangerous live-shackling slaughter practices, and adopt animal welfare reforms like the Better Chicken Commitment. Most importantly, to protect both humans and animals, these companies must move away from factory farming and prioritize its plant-based product lines. If we don’t speak up, Tyson will continue to prioritize profits over human rights, animal wellbeing, and public health.
On The Border: End This Animal Cruelty!
On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina uses chickens that live in horrific conditions and are subjected to extreme suffering on factory farms. The chickens raised for On The Border’s supply chain are crammed together in windowless sheds, with no space to move around. They often get chemical burns on their bodies from standing in their own waste with nowhere to go. Because these chickens have been bred to grow extremely large extremely quickly, their bodies cannot support them leading to painful deformities, diseases, and the inability to stand or walk to reach food and water. No animal should have to live like that. Sign this petition to tell On The Border that they need to commit to better welfare standards. Their competitors, like Moe’s Southwest Grill, Taco Cabana, Chipotle, and Denny’s, have adopted meaningful animal welfare policies, it is time that On The Border does too. Din Tai Fung likes to say that it cares about quality. But when it comes to animal welfare, this iconic Taiwanese restaurant chain is failing its customers and failing its reputation. An untold number of egg-laying hens suffer in cruel cages throughout Din Tai Fung’s global supply chain. These cages are so small and packed with birds that the hens can’t do anything that is natural or important to them. Often, their body parts are caught in the caging, which results in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their cage mates. Hundreds of companies around the world are ditching cages. Global commitments to go cage-free are being made by some of the largest companies in the world, including Nestle, Unilever, Marriott International, Hilton Worldwide, Sodexo, Compass Group, Lidl, and Aldi. Even low-end fast food companies and US prisons are moving away from this horrible practice. Din Tai Fung has recognized that cages are inhumane and outdated. Its restaurant in the United Kingdom already exclusively sources cage-free eggs. Unfortunately, Din Tai Fung refuses to apply these same basic standards in other countries. Din Tai Fung claims: “we are honest, fair, and accountable for our actions” and that “quality is the lifeblood of business”. It’s time that Din Tai Fung acknowledge that animals and its guests deserve higher food standards. It’s time that Din Tai Fung demonstrates it cares about its values by making a global cage-free commitment. Tell Omni Hotels & Resorts—it’s time be transparent
12 years ago, Omni Hotels & Resorts committed to eliminating the use of caged eggs from its supply chains by sourcing only cage-free eggs. This was in response to demand from consumers across the globe for transparency about where their food comes from—especially with regard to animal welfare. More than 400 companies have listened to—and acted on—widespread consumer concern over the cruel and archaic battery cages in which hens are forced to live their entire lives. By committing to source only cage-free eggs, companies are helping to eliminate some of the worst forms of abuse used in standard factory farming practices. Sadly though, Omni Hotels has refused to publicly report on its progress, so customers have no way of knowing if the company has followed through on its commitment. All the while, they continue to profit off of a promise that may not be fulfilled. Most eggs come from hens who are crammed together into small, filthy, and barren wire cages. Each hen is forced to live in a space about the size of an iPad, in which she doesn’t even have room to spread her wings. These social, intelligent animals are forced to live their entire lives in misery. That is why it is so important for Omni Hotels & Resorts to fulfill its cage-free promise. Omni Hotels & Resorts claims to be committed to raising expectations, but has failed to meet expectations with regard to supply chain transparency. Companies like Hilton, Marriott, and Hyatt have openly reported their progress on their own cage-free commitments. Why won’t Omni Hotels & Resorts? Tell Another Broken Egg Cafe—Consumers demand transparency!
Consumers across the globe are demanding more transparency about where their food comes from—especially with regard to animal welfare. In response, corporations are committing to doing better. More than 400 companies have listened to—and acted on—widespread consumer concern over the cruel and outdated battery cages hens are forced to live their entire lives in. By adopting these higher welfare standards, businesses are helping to eliminate some of the worst forms of abuse commonly used in standard factory farming practices. Nearly a decade ago, Another Broken Egg Cafe committed to eliminating the use of caged eggs from its supply chains by sourcing only cage-free eggs for all of its United States locations in 2010. Sadly though, Another Broken Egg Cafe has refused to report on its progress like promised. The majority of eggs come from hens who are crammed together into filthy, wire cages—with each chicken only getting space the size of an iPad. These social, intelligent animals are forced to live their entire lives without enough room to even spread their wings or exhibit their natural behaviors. Another Broken Egg’s own philosophy is "Nothing short of right is right." Well, there is nothing right about animal cruelty. And if more than 400 other companies can take action to end this abuse and report their progress, why won’t Another Broken Egg Cafe? Is Fogo de Chao keeping a dirty, rotten secret?
Fogo de Chao made a promise to its customers. They committed to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs by 2019, leading consumers to believe they care about animal welfare. Yet it’s now 2019 and Fogo de Chao is staying suspiciously silent. By not reporting on the status of its commitment, Fogo de Chao is deceiving its customers. Egg-laying hens suffer some of the worst abuses in the factory farming industry. Crammed together in tiny cages, hens can’t spread their wings, or even move. Their bodies get caught in the cages and some are trampled to death. Without the ability to perform natural behaviors like dust-bathing and nesting, the hens experience unimaginable frustration and boredom, resulting in severe psychological distress. Due to consumer demand, companies all over the world are ditching these cruel cages. Global commitments to go cage-free are being made by some of the largest restaurants in the world, including Olive Garden, Capital Grill, TGI Fridays and Starbucks. Even low-end fast food companies and US prisons are moving away from this horrible practice. Fogo De Chao, a supposedly fine-dining establishment, committed to going cage-free but has since left the public in the dark on the issue. It ignores consumers’ requests for information and has not provided any updates about its progress towards being 100% cage-free in its egg supply chain. If Wyndham ran its hotels, resorts, and vacation rentals the way its egg suppliers run their factory farms, they would be filthy, small, overcrowded, and unsafe. Wyndham Hotels & Resorts and Wyndham Destinations have a dark secret. Millions of egg-laying hens throughout Wyndham’s global supply chain suffer in cruel cages. These cages are so small and packed with birds that the hens can’t do anything that is natural or important to them. Often, their body parts are caught in the caging, which results in fractured or broken bones, deformities, and severe feather loss. Some hens, exhausted or unable to move, are trampled to death by their cage mates. Hundreds of companies around the world are ditching cages. Global commitments to go cage-free are being made by some of the largest companies in the world, including Marriott International, Accor Hotels, InterContinental Hotels, Hilton Hotels, Best Western, Unilever, Nestle, Lidl, Aldi, Aramark, Sodexo, Mondelez, and Compass Group. Even low-end fast food companies and US prisons are moving away from this horrible practice. Wyndham has recognized that cages are inhumane and outdated. In 2017, Wyndham Worldwide promised guests that it would go 100% cage-free globally, and Wyndham received public praise for the pledged move to higher welfare standards. In 2018, Wyndham Worldwide spun off into two companies -- both still holding the Wyndham name -- and deleted its cage-free commitment. Hens are still needlessly suffering for Wyndham. Customers are tired of false promises and hollow commitments. Wyndham Destinations says: “we believe in hospitality with heart.” Wyndham Hotels and Resorts proudly states: “we hold ourselves to the highest standards. We’re responsible, truthful and transparent. We do the right thing...we honor our commitments.” It’s time for both these companies to take their words seriously; to do the right thing, act transparently, and show compassion to millions of animals that are suffering. It’s time to follow-through on their commitment and work to meet basic animal welfare standards. It’s time for all of Wyndham’s brands to make good on the promise to finally go 100% cage-free globally.
